Durant huit ans, il travaille à la conception des composants de Superphenix. Puis il rejoint le réacteur Phenix démarré en 1974, où durant cinq années, il est responsable des mesures et essais sur la centrale. En 1987, il revient au centre de Cadarache pour devenir chef d’un laboratoire de thermohydraulique qui assure de nombreux essais pour Superphenix et pour le projet européen de réacteur rapide. Après l’arrêt de Superphenix, il dirige successivement le réacteur de recherche Osiris à Saclay, puis le réacteur HFR de la Commission européenne situé aux Pays-Bas. En 2002, il revient sur Phenix où il assure la direction du réacteur pour sa dernière phase de fonctionnement. Après l’arrêt du réacteur en 2019, il est directeur au CEA, puis attaché nucléaire à l’ambassade de France à Berlin. Auteur de plusieurs livres sur le sujet.
