Présentation

The 6th Zermatt Symposium titled “Conditions and Impact of Star Formation: From Lab to Space”, followed the tradition of the Zermatt Symposia on the Interstellar Medium with the concept of a broad topical range, addressing all aspects from the large scales in time and space, namely the cosmological evolution of galaxies driven by star formation, down to the details of star formation in individual, local regions and to the micro-physics of molecule formation and excitation. The Symposium brought together experts on galaxy evolution, star formation and the interstellar medium, as well as on laboratory astrophysics and astronomical instrumentation. The material compiled in this proceedings book provides an excellent summary and overview of the state of the field.

The symposium was dedicated to the memory of C.H. Townes, who died in late January 2015, 6 months before his 100th birthday. He made many important path-breaking contributions to our scientific field, not in the least reflected in the long list of his students, many of which became themselves leaders in their field.

EAS Publications Series

The European Astronomical Society was founded in 1990. The purpose of the society is to contribute to and promote the advancement of astronomy, in its broadest sense, in Europe. With this aim in mind, EAS decided to launch this Publications Series, whose goal is to publish the proceedings of selected scientific meetings.
This series on astronomical subjects welcomes the proceedings of colloquia, workshops, schools of high standard..., whether they are held in Europe or elsewhere.
