This meeting has demonstrated that the understanding of solar activity needs to put together a tremendously broad spectrum of scientific fields and observational techniques, relying on a wide variety of instruments. The challenge of forecasting solar events and their impact on space weather is still ahead of us. Impressive progress has been made in the last years, thanks to the availability of new highly successful instruments and high performance computing. But many more questions have been raised and there is still an obvious need for international collaboration, to improve both our observational and modelling performances.
