Presentation

The conference 'New advances in stellar physics: from microscopic to macroscopic processes' took place in Roscoff, Station biologique de Roscoff (CNRS-UPMC), region of Bretagne (France), from the 27th to the 31st of May 2013.

This meeting gathered astrophysicists with high international level in stellar physics, more specifically interested in the interdependence of microscopic and macroscopic processes in stars, and their consequences for stellar structure and evolution. It covered a large range of related subjects. The key observations for stellar modelling including the asteroseismic constraints were first presented. It was followed by reviews and presentations of new developments in the subjects of the selective diffusion of chemical species, the various kinds of mixing processes occurring in stars, general hydrodynamics, transport of angular momentum, atomic data and opacities. Finally the global modelling of stars including these processes was discussed.

This scientific event was the occasion of an international tribute to Sylvie Vauclair, who has devoted a large part of her scientific career to the study of both microscopic and macroscopic processes in stars.

This book contains the talks and posters presented at this conference. It appears as an important review on the subject and will certainly become an interesting tool for students and researchers.
