This book is an academic monograph based on several decades of research in fieldworks, laboratory studies, and references to a large amount of literature. The whole book is divided into an introduction section which includes: the History of Chinese Amphibian Studies, the Overview of China’s Nature, the Biodiversity and Geographical Distribution of the Amphibians of China, the Ecological Types of the Amphibians of China, the Taxonomic Terms and Measurements of the Amphibians. And followed by a taxonomic section which includes detailed descriptions of China’s known 13 families, 87 genera and 421 species with their Latin names, English names, synonyms, morphological characteristics, biological data, population status, geographic distribution, discussions of classification, and the key to adult amphibians.
The monograph is divided into two volumes.
Volume I contains chapters on the introduction, the GYMNOPHIONA, the URODELA and ANURA (including Bombinatoridae, Megophyidae, Bufonidae and Hylidae) totaling more than 200 species and subspecies.
Volume II includes the Ranidae, Dicroglossidae, Occidozygidae, Rhacophoridae, Microhylidae and 4 introduced species, totaling about 221 species.
